Following our initial press release on the corruption scandal involving Huawei in the European Parliament, some disturbing new information has emerged. These revelations reinforce our concerns about the influence of the cell phone industry on political decisions, particularly in terms of public health and the regulation of wireless technologies.

Huawei: Implications in France

In France, a judicial investigation opened in 2024 is underway for influence trafficking, misuse of corporate assets and concealment concerning links between Huawei and former minister Jean-Louis Borloo (former chairman of Huawei France), notably concerning a donation of 50,000 euros to his foundation.

It was Jean-Marie Le Guen, a doctor and former Minister of Health, who replaced Jean-Louis Borloo on the Huawei France Board of Directors in September 2020.

“I have a deep admiration for this company, which is a world leader in telecoms technologies” JM Le Guen.

Huawei: new revelations of corruption directly involving 5G

  • MEPs suspected of having been paid to write a favorable letter to Huawei on the 5G market
  • Five people have been charged with active corruption, criminal organization and money laundering.
  • Further raids on the European Parliament offices in Brussels

What are the implications for public health?

These revelations raise serious questions about the integrity of decision-making processes, both in Europe and in France, particularly with regard to:

  • The regulation of 5G technologies
  • Consumer protection against the risks associated with electromagnetic radiation

It is more urgent than ever to act to ensure that public health issues take precedence over commercial interests.” Dr. Marc Arazi.

Statement by Dr. Marc Arazi, President of Phonegate Alert:

“This new information confirms our fears about the unlimited influence of industrialists in political decisions on the development of 5G in France and Europe. Indeed, this certainly explains why millions of cell phone users have been waiting for over five years for a regulatory change to better protect their health. Why is the process being blocked by the European Commission? Our NGO wants answers. It is more urgent than ever to act to ensure that public health issues take precedence over commercial interests.”

Our call for action and a new start

In the face of these revelations, we reiterate our call for:

  • A thorough investigation into the influence of lobbyists in decisions concerning public health and the regulation of wireless technologies.
  • Immediate reinforcement of consumer protection measures, including body-contact SAR compliance measurements.
  • A review of the processes for appointing former politicians to the boards of technology companies.
